This is why it is important with proper working lights on the construction site

Good working light on the construction site is required for a good result and safe working conditions. Especially now in the dark season, because poor lighting increases the risk of serious accidents.

Proper work lighting is of great importance for human health and well-being and is crucial for how quickly and safely one works. During the winter months, daylight is limited and the need for extra work light increases.

If you work in poorly lit areas, you get tired faster, and you use more energy to concentrate. The chance of making mistakes and the risk of accidents are increased. In 2020, around 2,500 occupational injuries were registered in the construction industry in Norway. Falls from heights were the most common type of accidents, with about 550 registered cases.

"We can not directly link lack of lighting as a contributing cause of work accidents, but we believe that proper and good work lighting leads to better, faster and safer work and that the risk of serious accidents is minimized. Our goal is to create safe workplaces, prevent accidents and preserve the environment with the help of smart, user-friendly lighting products»says Daniel Brekke who is the General Manager and Product Developer at Promitto.

What is the definition of proper work lighting?

To achieve sufficient lighting in a work space you need to combine direct and indirect lighting. Direct lighting is often called spot lighting and indirect lighting is called general lighting.

The spot lighting should illuminate exactly the area you are working on. The general lighting should illuminate the surroundings in a satisfactory way at all times. The spot lighting often has a warmer color temperature and gives a more yellow light than the general lighting, which often has a more white and bright light.

One solution is, for example, to hang row lights / LED strips from the ceiling for general lighting, while various work lamps provide spot lighting. Common to both types of lighting is that LED technology is preferable.

LED is good for the environment and your wallet

In the past, the most commonly used light sources on a construction site have been steam lamps outdoors, while fluorescent lamps, compact fluorescent lamps and halogen have been most commonly used indoors. In recent years, LED lighting has become more common, especially in contexts where bright and clear light is preferable.

One of the reasons why LED lighting has become so widespread has to do with the environment. There are constantly demands for more energy-efficient solutions and compared to traditional light bulbs, LED lights provide a saving of up to 90% in energy consumption. This has a positive environmental effect in that the total energy consumption decreases and CO2 emissions are reduced.

LED lights are also significantly more robust than traditional light sources and they have a much longer lifespan. The lifespan of the LED strips from Promitto, for example, is a full 30,000 hours and there are also no breakable parts that need to be replaced.

“The benefits of LED lighting are many. You save money, you reduce the environmental impact both in terms of energy consumption and in relation to waste, there is less risk of fire and the technology means that the solutions are constantly improved and more varied ",, says Daniel Brekke, General Manager and Product Developer in Promitto Group AS.
